Peru(ve) It!

In 10 mins, I´ll be jetsetting off to Peru and Bolivia.. my first time ever in South America!
Wish me luck, since I dont know a word of Spanish, and my humongous backpack plus Asian appearance are blinking signboards with the words ROB ME. Yes.. so do pray for me.

Will be returning on the 16th of Jan with souvenirs of shrunken heads and live snakes for my closest friends. (just kidding, just kidding)

Have a Merry Christmas, and an awesome New Year!
(and remember that I'm thinking of you)

yo tengo una fiesta en mis pentalones!
(which means ´i have a party in my pants´)

Perhaps

I mustn't confuse warmth and squiggly feelings and missing you right after with actual feelings. Need to get a grip on myself.

All I Want For Christmas

So the mayhem of the semester has finally died down: no more studying, parties, practices, performances, meetings, social obligations, assignments, and all of the frills and buzz that form so much of my identity during the academic year. Now, its just me and (unhealthy obsession with) YouTube, Facebook, New York, Princeton, and long lazy days sleeping in. And even that will be going away when I embark on my trip to Peru/Bolivia this Tuesday.

So in the midst of this sudden imposed lull, I've become acutely aware of how quiet campus is. 80% of the rooms in the high rises are dark, Locust Walk is devoid of fast walking students and people hustling fliers. And with the exception of the people I'm going to Peru with, I've run out of people to hang out with because they've all gone home. (with the exception of you, who drove me to Princeton and back today.. thank you! :)) Shops are playing Christmas carols, and Facebook has pictures of friends throwing parties for long lost high school friends not seen since the summer. New York has a big tree with pretty lights and Christmas carolers and Salvation Army people ringing bells and long lines at the Rockafella ice rink and a Christmas fair at Bryant Park.

And in the midst of it all, quite frankly, without the roaring company I've enjoyed all semester from having friends all around me, I'm missing home. And mum and dad and my sis. And my beloved 25th Student Council peeps who're organizing the most amazing NYE celebration ever. And driving at 3am to nowhere in particular. And clubbing at Zouk. And dance classes at Jitterbugs. And swimming in the sun.

Yes, I miss you, Singapore. Even if I don't mention it much on this blog, and even though I scorn at its (lack of) political freedom and myopic perspectives and immature characteristics, I still miss the essence of what I call "home".

Now now, I'm not usually this nostalgic, perhaps its because I usually don't have time to reflect about what defines me in this crazy collegiate life, or that because I'm such a chameleon that I can morph myself so easily into whatever environment I'm in through my activities and social networks and bustling lifestyle. But take that all away and I realize: I still need home.

I'm going to be leaving for Peru/Bolivia on Christmas eve, I really need to immerse myself into Third World country exploration and fun and forget about how much I miss you.

My Christmas wish list:
1. Mum and Dad and Vanessa
2. 25th Student Council NYE celebration
3. Everything else that defines home
4. To stop flirting with people I'm not serious with, and to stop wanting people I cannot have, and to have a person I can legitimately want.
5. That Dance Group. I have a good vibe about it. Maybe... next semester.
6. This Christmas: Ice skating and hot chocolate and holding hands and Love Actually
7. To stop worrying about my (shitty) grades and realize that I'm learning the most in my hardest classes.
8. Not to forget that "friendship" is a priority in life.
9. To be serious and start preparing for my future
10. God.

As an afterthought:
11. An iPhone
12. A welsh corgi
13. Mousy-looking girl(s)

Feliz Navidad, everyone!

Singapore, As They(We?) See Us

As a result of my post-finals completely-useless-and-time-wasting endeavors, I checked out Uncyclopedia's wiki on Singapore, which I thought was hilarious.
Since I suspect the gahmen may have banned this entry on our sunny island, here are a few noteworthy quotes:

"Singapore, otherwise known as The Democratic Socialist Republic of Singapore, is the only shopping mall and execution ground with a seat in the United Nations."

"Singapore follows a democratic single-party system, which means that the people are free to all make the same choice. "

"Judicial Proceedings"
"TO ALL CITIZENS: The act of viewing this webpage is strictly FORBIDDEN under federal law, and is considered a capital offence, punishable by the death sentence. Please remain in your homes and stay calm. Any Singapore citizens caught editing/viewing/downloading this page will be liable to caning, life imprisonment or a gruesome EXECUTION by HANGING (but not before a lengthy press-covered due legal process). The situation is being handled by the relevant authorities (read: ISD) as you read this (and we know who you are already). Do not attempt to edit this article. Do not attempt to voice your opinion. Do not leave your house. Do not turn off your computer. Do not attempt to breathe. Do not forget to pay your income tax and the tax on your income tax and the tax on the dividend on your income tax. Your leaders love and care for you very much, so pay your taxes uncomplainingly. Do not question them (although we really do love to hear your feedback... NOT!)."

Economy: "The main exports of Singapore include Tiger Beer and students from Raffles Junior College."

Military: Consisting of millions of loyal and dedicated soldiers, the military of Singapore, known as the Singapore Armed Forces or the SAF, is the most powerful army in the world and has never lost any battles (because it has not been in any).

Education
: "Prominent places of learning in Singapore include...the "Please get out of my elite uncaring face" Raffles Junior College, recently causing an uproar among the Indignant Sadder Class, who "cannot take the Brutal Truth"; Raffles Girls School (Secondary), which the government has pressed charges on for going against their "More sex! More babies!" policy and refusing to procreate."

A Note from the Ministry of the Dispensation of Correct Information
: "This is Internet chatter and cannot be taken seriously haha, as it brings up no valid points about the current state of Singapore. It is patent nonsense. We are secure in our right to rule. We have no time to debate this futile affair."

*Hooray for random, senseless, hilarious citizen journalism!

The dawn is breaking
A light shining through

And I'm tangled up in you... yeah.

Late Date

Okay, so even though I'm in the middle of finals, I just HAD to blog this:

Last night, I set my alarm for 10am, so I could have some revision time for my exam at noon.

It is the MOST SURREAL FEELING IN THE WORLD to wake up, look at my clock, which reads 11.57am, and wonder if somehow, somewhere, there must be a mistake: that my clock's broken, that its actually 11.57 the previous night, that its not actually Wednesday, until I realize...

"ARE YOU F***ING SERIOUS?!"

And I jump out of bed and race to the bathroom.
Good thing I had a bike.

Invisible Man

I swear, I haven't died, or gotten sick of blogging, or anything of the sort.
Its just that Swinger hellweek (for our super sexy Onda Swing show!) has just passed, and now I'm here, right at the beginning of Finals week.

So yes, I really dont have time to eat. Or pee. Or blog. Its sad.

Just 8 more days, 8 more days and I'll be free. (and jetting off to Peru!!!!)

Few thoughts:
1) I want to improve my hiphop
2) I'm an idiot when it comes to love. Really. I know I'm going to regret my decision.

ARAGH... so much to blog, so little time!
Sheesh kabob.

On Da Swing!

I swear, everytime I flier on the Walk, it snows. Heavily.
But its worth it because I get to legitimately harass people to take my fliers.
Its funny too because I was wearing my black cashmere trench coat, which was COVERED in snow after my shift. I walked into class looking like a snowman, and pissed off the person in front of me when I tried to shake it all off.

Come come! Stop telling me you'll wait till Friday to buy 'em because Saturday's almost sold out.

Eww.

I just re-read my review (below). The points are all there but the language is disgustingly amateurish. Forgive me. I will probably delirious yesterday after a really tough week (2 midterms, one paper draft, lots of dance, and 2 days of falling sick).

I absolutely promise to update it later when I get the chance. Perhaps after my performance tonight. Life is too hardcore right now.
