Two weeks into the 47th Commando Section Leader Course and i've:
-Had the toughest PT in the world
-Done "one for Leaders!" when doing push ups.
-For the first time, eaten instant noodles, pringles, peanuts, oreos, mamee and other snacks in the bunk.
-Failed 5km Standard Obstacle Course for the first time in my life. (By 21 seconds, dammit!)
-Passed 7km Standard Obstacle Course for the first time in my life (By 2 mins! whoohoo!)
-Realised how much physics one has to do in operations (did you know that setting up a drop zone site involes the calculation of three physics formulae?)
-Thrown a smoke grenade for the first time.
-Maintained comms with a Super Puma helicoptor pilot to guide him to land.
-Set up a helicoptor landing site.
-FLEW IN A SUPER PUMA HELICOPTOR! Fantastic feeling.
-Been able to call and say goodnight to chienling in bed almost every night.
-Had one nights' out (as compared to SIX for the boatmen.. grr)
-Carried and squeezed more load in my field pack then i ever thought possible. (and i thought squeezing 10 pack items + combat rations for BMT was impossible)
-Had the most slack of slack water parades (drinking a sip and walking back to the bunk)
-Gained respect for a couple of people from other platoons who are so good, so fit, so skilled, and so helpful that its no surprise that they are leaders.
-Been pissed off with a LOT of people whom i seriously doubt would become leaders if they were in platoon 8. Seriously. I never knew i could be so pissed at people. The world is full of bastards.
-Because of the presence of these people, am considering the fact that OCS may be a possibility after all. (But then again, do i really want to? 13 years of reservist training is a big turn off)
-And of course, like everyone else, received news that my ORD has been reduced to two months earlier!! ORD loh!!
Its an experience being in the toughest vocation in the toughest unit in the army. Its a long 11 weeks to attaining our sergeant rank, during which there will be seven weeks of outfield, three of which will be spent in Taiwan! Crap. I dunno how im gonna survive.
And its weird how sometimes i feel that i love being in Commandos despite the challenges, maybe its because of the pride and honour and all, but at other times i hate the friggin place so much i wreck my brain thinking of ways to downgrade.
A paradox indeed. Ah, i just hope ORD will come soon. Another.. 600 more days in the army?
