The Teacher Feature

Well, technically im 3 days early, teachers' day wont be for another few days, but since today would be the celebrations for most colleges (which all jc2 saints dont have to go for, but dunno why we're so extra we'll be going down anyway) i decided to write about something we always take for granted: our lovely teachers.

Yeah teachers, love them or hate them (yes i actually do love some of them) they're always there and hell you have to admit you need them, whether you like it or not. From strict chinese teachers with rulers, to nice bully-able teachers, to those with eccentric habits like snapping a bra strap or throwing paper balls into the bin, to those with weird punishments ("go hug the pillar"), from macho ones to handsome gay ones (ahem, like a certain one in sajc.. mr "so-what-happens-is-that"), from those with weird accents to those who could use an english lesson, from those who are itchy to those who are bitc... well, you get the idea.

Here are the top 5 teachers who were really really really good, ranked in chronological order:

1. Mrs Alice Siew (Pri 2 form teacher): first planted the idea that it was actually possible to score excellent results in exams. It worked: i got 2nd in class that year and she gave me the book "Journey to the Centre of the Earth" as a prize. (aww..)

2. Brother Michael Broughton (vice principal of SJI): Probably the horniest religious person i've ever met. Kidding kidding.. Just goes to show he know how to communicate with testostorone pumped Josephians. Is very eloquent, knows how to give inspiring speeches, and gives honest helpful advice on God, life, and sex. (no, seriously) Is famous for his infamous inaugural Personal Hygiene Talk, which comes packaged with "interesting pics". Someone who's earned the respect of many loyal Josephians.

3. Ms Choo Siew Bee (sec 3 and 4 Lit teacher): Probably the most qualified and experienced teacher i've ever met (she's headed several Gifted programmes), and one that really understands students as well. Is not afraid to argue with regimental stuffy complacent overpaid admin staff. Inculcated a real love for lit and english among her students. Was probably the only teacher whose lessons ive never slept in. (besides PE of course) Is also an excellent mentor, counsellor, confidante, etc etc who doesnt give a crap about politically correct answers.

4. Ms Edna Lee (jc1 and 2 econs tutor): As ah lian as they get. But extremely nice to students and is really firm but fair. And she REALLY knows her stuff, unlike some incompetant teachers (we all know who im comparing her to). Is really patient in explaining complicated econs concepts, if it werent for her i'd have dropped econs a long time ago. Really cares for her students alot, goes out of her way to organize make up lectures and make good luck gifts before exams.

5. Ms Beatrice Chong (student council teacher): The prettiest of the lot (She came in 1st runner up in the channel u prettiest teacher contest!) and easily one with the most confidence, style and elegance i've ever seen. Speaks really well and knows how to argue her case logically. Is an excellent leader and very efficient in terms of council work, inspires many of us to greater heights. Is extremely good at public relations (esp between staff, students and council) and is really intelligent as well (scholarship holder!) Plus, you can talk to her honestly about anything in the world, and she'd understand how you're feeling. The role model of girls and the desire of men. (whhahaha just kidding)

Other teachers worth mentioning:
Mrs Chern Sia Hui (fantastic body, really good but ah lian physics teacher)
Mr Roger Poulier (jolly and big peer support and prefectorial board teacher in charge. Opens up the softee side in you and is REALLY good at group dynamics. Learnt alot about leadership from him)
Mr Abdul Mannan: (was never taught by him, but known for his eccentric during-lecture physics experiments and stories. Easily the best physics explanations ive ever heard)
and of course, wonderful choreographer ZAKI: (the most creative and talented person in dance i know, who else can come up with intricate moves and blocking with the snap of a finger? A perfectionist and a bi*** (as he calls himself) but we all love him for that. Gave us the SYF Gold this year too!)

think i'll write about the really horrible ones tomorrow.
